The Anne of Green Gables Cookbook + tested recipes

36077211First I must say that this book looks very beautiful. It has a romantic and nostalgic feeling to it and every recipe is accompanied by a page-wide picture of the dish that looks like taken straight from the world of Anne. It includes all the recipes from the original collection of 1985 (inspired by passages from the series of Anne of Green Gables) plus 11 new recipes including some from L.M. Montgomery’s own kitchen.

Kate Macdonald (co-author) is actually one of Montgomery’s grandchildren and I don’t know why, but I liked that. Back to the book, each recipe starts with a quote from the book that refers to the dish we are about to make. It is as if you are summoning the story as you cook and bringing it back to life with every bite. I decided to try some of the recipes before writing this post and there was one that I knew I must prepare no matter what, can you guess which one it was?:

“Only it begins with an R and a C and it’s bright red color. I love bright red drinks, don’t you? They taste twice as good as any other color.” – Anne of Green Gables

“Diana Barry’s Favorite Raspberry Cordial” (the real cordial)

The recipes are quite easy to make, I was planning try the cordial and “Gilbert’s Hurry-Up Dinner”, but ended up making 5 different recipes in total picked from the 3 books of the series plus one from L.M. Montgomery’s kitchen. All of them delicious. Can you guess which book each of them belong to?

If you are a fan of L.M. Montgomery’s stories, you definitely want this cookbook, and if you haven’t read them yet (please do) you will find plenty of inspiration here to start your journey.
